Retail sales in Mexico rose 0.1% annually in May: INEGI

In May 2013, the retail sales in retail outlets increased 0.1%, while wholesale fell 6.9%, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

From January to May, both categories registered declines, as sales declined 5.5% wholesale and retail fell 0.1% on the same period of 2012.

Based on the Monthly Survey on Business Establishments and seasonally adjusted, the agency disclosed that retail sales rose 0.74%, while the wholesalers were down 0.07% in the fifth month of the year compared to the previous one.

He points out that the increase in retail sales in its annual comparison was a result of advances in textiles, clothing accessories and footwear, food, beverages and snuff, motor vehicle parts, fuel and lubricants and articles on for health care.

As for the remuneration paid in the wholesale trade, mentioned that they were up 4.3% and retail at 3.0% in May 2013 compared to the figures reported in the same period a year earlier.

In monthly comparison, states that real average wages paid in wholesale establishments fell 0.34 percent and retail rose 0.42% from the previous month.

In this way, the agency detailed that in the first five months of the year, the personnel employed in wholesale trade rose 2.8% and in retail trade by 4.0%, while average real wages paid in wholesale establishments grew 3.6% and retail at 1.4 percent.

It states that in May this year, wholesale sales fell at an annual rate in 28 of the 37 urban areas considered in the survey, including Coatzacoalcos, Nuevo Laredo, San Luis Potosí, Campeche, Durango, Leon, La Paz, Queretaro , Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Torreon, Mexico City, Ciudad Juarez and Guadalajara.

In contrast, he adds, increased Matamoros, Tampico, Colima, Morelia, Oaxaca, Reynosa, Aguascalientes, Cancun and Ciudad Victoria.
